Post-ORD Plans

Apologies for the rather late update this week, as I had been crippled with a horrible flu, and now I'm still unable to speak properly due to the huge ulcers in my mouth.

I decided to write this post as it has been something on my mind for quite a while now.

Yes, I know. It's still 619 days to ORD, and I probably should be focusing on my new vocation rather than thinking about these stuffs. But hey, it's never too early to dream about what's gonna happen after I reclaim my Pink I/C and achieve the top rank of a Civilian again right? After all, some do say these 2 years fly by very fast (though really, it's been quite a slow ride as of late...)

To put it out there first, I DO NOT intend to work during those few months between ORD (Feb 2020) and commencing University (Aug 2020). The reason is simple, in that having worked in a stressful organization for 2 years, and having spent the previous 6 years of my youth bettering my portfolio and improving myself, I think I deserve a half year break. Furthermore, it could be the last time I take a real break before entering University (a tough course, no less) and eventually the working world.

My plans are of course, subject to change as I'm still many days away from the ultimate goal of ORD. So this is more of an initial plan. But without further ado, presenting to you some post-ORD plans I have in mind.

1) Travel

After 2 years of 14 days annual leave, which probably will be blown quickly, I find a rare pocket of time where I can travel without the fear of being called back for extra duty.

I always find the idea of travelling alone an exciting one. To be able to go visit the places I love, do the things I want to, eat all I want to, at my own pace. I won't have friends who set plans that I have to follow (such as waking up before 7am), or family sharing a room (I like my privacy).

I originally intended to go away for a long time (a month or two), but I realized budget constraints. So perhaps a 14 day trip will suffice.

As for where I will go, honestly I'm not too sure yet. I might go to Australia/NZ/UK since it's sufficiently far from Singapore (but again budget), or I might go to Phillipines or Cambodia, or just an Asian country I haven't been to yet. My requirements are just a place away from Singapore that I can relax and sleep with very good hospitality and food.

2) Get a Driver's License

Being able to drive has been a longtime dream. Before I entered NS, my target vocation was to become a Driver, but that did not go through, as I became a technician, and now an ASA. I mean, who wouldn't want a free license paid by the SAF? But I guess it wasn't meant to be.

To be able to drive myself around also gives me the freedom I want to, so I can explore around Singapore more. I mean, I could do it by MRT/Bus, but walking in the hot sun? Nah. Furthermore, if I become a lawyer in the future, I probably would need a car. Hence getting a license is not really a want, but more of a need for the future. I can already picture myself driving around Singapore for good food and meeting my friends.

Getting a license might take a long time though, considering both theory and practical lessons. I guess I might have to start this plan nearer to the end of my time as an NSF. And I'll have to consider how am I supposed to get my hands on a car, since my mum uses the family car mostly.

3) A final run with MUN?

Those who know me would know that I was done with MUN, or at least as a delegate in MUN. I walked out of MUN having had no physical awards, but 3 Verbal Commendations after 7 MUNs. I did not intend to make MUN a lifelong thing. However, I left with some regrets, in a sense that I was unable to play a closer role in MUN, be it as a Chair, or a Secretariat member.

I always say that I was open to a return, provided the return will be to Chair or be a Secretariat. Obviously, given how intensive preparation for MUNs are, I probably cannot do MUN in my 2 years with the SAF. However, I will have the empty 6 months after NS to do so.

Perhaps I'll jump the gun and gun for chairing a high stakes conference, such as SMUN, or a local conference such as OPMUN. Or maybe I'll go overseas and try chairing across the Causeway. Who knows? Either ways, I hope to be able to chair once before I enter university. Otherwise, it'll just be a dream being carried into uni life, which will be difficult as a Law student. But we'll see.

We'll see.

Let me know if you have any interesting plans, or maybe you have something interesting for me to do!
